Novafit Energy

Carbohydrate calculator

Three steps to know how much carbohydrate you need on race day — and how many Novafit bars and gels that is.

STEP 1

Your race

Start from a typical race and adjust afterwards, or set directly the time you think you will take.

Race type

3:00h
30 min12 h24 h
Terrain
What will the weather be like?

High mountain: races that spend most of their distance above 2,000 m.

STEP 2

Your hourly target

The longer the race, the more carbohydrate per hour you need — and the better trained your stomach has to be.

Your Novafit plan

3 gels 45 g CHO · 400 mg Na · 125 mg Mg
3 bars 30 g CHO · 46 mg Mg · 188 mg BCAA

When to take each one

What else you get

0 mg Sodium 0 mg/h
0 mg Magnesium 0 mg/h
0 mg BCAA 8:1:1 bar only
0 mg L-glutamine bar only

Why alternate the two

The bar looks after the muscle 230 mg of magnesium citrate —about 46 mg of magnesium—, 188 mg of BCAA in an 8:1:1 ratio and 68 mg of L-glutamine, with 30 g of gradually digested carbohydrate. Magnesium contributes to normal muscle function and to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
The gel moves you and hydrates you 45 g of carbohydrate that gets in within 0-5 minutes, 400 mg of sodium as citrate and 125 mg of magnesium as bisglycinate, the form that absorbs best and troubles the stomach least. Sodium is what you lose most of in sweat.

Novafit bar 30 g of carbohydrate, 50 % natural fruit pulp, 230 mg of magnesium citrate (about 46 mg of magnesium), 188 mg of BCAA 8:1:1 and 68 mg of L-glutamine.
Novafit gel 45 g of carbohydrate in a 1:0.8 glucose:fructose ratio, 400 mg of sodium citrate (400 mg of sodium) and 125 mg of magnesium as bisglycinate.
The magnesium figures in this calculator are magnesium itself, not the weight of the salt that provides it.
